BLACK GOLD SCREENS TO A FULL HOUSE - the Ethiopian coffee farmers

June 30th, 2006 by Marc Francis

Tadesse Meskela travelled back to the countryside….

with Jon Fleck (director of ‘goNGOgo’) to show Black Gold to the coffee farmers featured in the film….

With no announcements nor pre-publicity campaigns, an impromptu convergence took place in a small building owned by the Chairman of the Kilenso Mokonisa Co-operative. The screening was a sell out with 300 people crammed in a room no larger than 30 sq meters. If only it was easy as this for all our other screenings!

Thanks to a small generator, DVD player, TV set and Tadesse relentlessly acting as interpreter - the coffee farmers and their families watched Black Gold and for the first time saw where their coffee beans ended up! …and what a surprise it was.

We’re hoping to screen Black Gold throughout coffee farming communities in Africa. Anyone out there who can help fund this initaitive please contact us.
